End of Denazification in Austria

The B-Gendarmerie knowingly hired Wehrmacht veterans and VdU members.

The denazification of Austria’s 537,000 registered Nazis had largely ended in 1948.

The VdU (Federation of Indepenents, Verband der Unabhängigen) was a party that represented the interests of ex-Nazis in Austria and was later renamed to FPÖ. The B-Gendarmerie was the predecessor of Austrian armed forces.
